Potatoes and Onions and Garlic

You shouldn't just use sprouted potatoes from the supermarket as these may have virus or disease on them.

You should always buy garlic bulbs suitable for the UK's climate. Ones you grow at the supermarket will almost certainly have been grown abroad in a warmer climate.

Onion sets are just put in the ground with the tip showing. The biggest problem is birds pulling them out until they've rooted. Then keep them weed free and watered.

Potatoes - plant them at the right depth and spacing and then as they grow keep covering them back up with the earth - eventually they'll just grow huge and after the last risk of frost they'll be fine to let grow like mad. Regular watering is essential.
