Nesting Boxes
Contrary to belief nest boxes can be put up at any time of year. Birds
will quickly become familiar with boxes erected during the latter part
of the year, and may even use them for winter roosts, especially if you
add a little hay or wood shavings to the boxes before putting them up.
Fix nest boxes to walls or trees 3 to 4 metres above ground where the
birds have easy flight access. Make sure the opening is not exposed to
full sun or prevailing winds, and is out of reach of the neighbourhood
cats.
Bird Feeders
Feeding birds in your garden will give you hours of enjoyment, as well
as helping them to feed safely. Feeders can be hung in secluded places
for shy woodland birds or in open spaces for the more adventurous species,
prodiding both you and them hours of fun.
It is important that feeders are cleaned regularly. An easy way to maintain
a high level of hygiene is to clean feeders with a strong bristled cleaning
brush.
Bird Tables
One of the easiest ways to feed and attract birds to your garden is to
add a bird table. Make sure it is placed in an open site so that wild
birds have a clear view and feed safe whilst feeding, out of reach of
neighbourhood cats. Add a variety of feeds to attract different species
to your table.
Bird Feeds
When feeding birds it is important to offer as much variety as possible,
making sure you have seed and peanut feeders, along with seed mixes on
the table and the ground. This will encourage a wide range of different
species to visit your garden.
Encourage Wildlife to your Garden
You will be surprised how quickly you can transform your garden into a
haven for wildlife by planting some trees and adding a few wildlife homes.
Ladybird Breeding Kit
If you create the correct habitat in your garden you could help stop the
decline of some of our native wildlife species. T&M offer Bee Boxes,
a Hedgehog House, a Doormouse Box, plus a variety of other aids.
